Most, if not all, digital cameras come with a built-in flash. There is a purpose to a flash. It is not something you just play with, without thought. A flash can add to the beauty and drama of your photo. It is a crucial element that you’ll need to learn to play with if you really want to work on your photography skills.
Purpose of using your digi cam's flash
Your digicam’s flash is there to aid in creating the perfect lighting scenario for your picture. Sometimes, you will find that the environment and nature do not always cooperate when it comes to giving you the photo that you want. It can be too dim, or light can be off-balance to the kind of shot that you want. This is where the flash comes in. It provides appropriate lighting when you need it the most.
Tips when using your digital camera's flash
The first tip when using the flash is to not always be “flash-happy.” Sometimes, you don’t need a flash. Using a flash in certain cases may only result in a photo that’s too white. Another tip is to angle your shot correctly. Sometimes, when the flash is focused directly on a person’s eyes, it can result into “red-eyes,” which does not look good in pictures.
Use your flash properly and you can have great and creative fun with your digital camera.

I always appreciated underwater photography ever since I learned that such an art exists. As a matter of fact, I consider underwater cameras as the coolest stuff on earth, next to cannibals, suicide notes, hired killers, and death threats. I've seen some magnificent photos taken under the deepest parts of the Pacific Ocean as well as the Arctic Ocean, and most of them are taken by the artistic photographers of the National Geographic Channel
I'm a frustrated photographer, and my attempts with taking shots of sea animals, corals, and plants always end up to varying levels of disaster. I'm not much of a swimmer, you see, and I don't know what scuba diving gears are for. Thus, people (mostly, my friends and family) think I'm documenting my suicide attempt every time I try photography below the sea.
I've seen a website that offers tutorials for this certain type of photography. They call it theunderwaterphotography.com, and the online instructors will teach you loads of things about the most complicated side of photography and how to make it look like a piece of cake. For the six-month crash course, you'll learn everything about the do's and don'ts of taking pictures under the sea for less than $50 as tuition fee. As for me, I think I need to study scuba diving first before enrolling in this class.

I am a late bloomer. I started a career in photography later than most people I know, but that didn't stop me from achieving my goals and that is to see my photographs at least in the pages of a local magazine. But ever since a child I have always wanted my photos to end up in the cover of National Geographic. And that still holds today and I'll never stop reaching that dream.
Being engaged in one of the most competitive area of photography ( nature photography ), it takes more than just talent and imagination to succeed. I remember my first experience with the camera that was during my college years working for our college paper. What drive me the most was to be the best all the time. But because of my fears and insecurities adding to the pressures of my job, I have never surpassed my own expectation. When I stepped out of college, my passion for photography didn't stop there.
After a few months I enrolled myself in a photography school to hone my craft .It was there where I learned of what a photographer should have in order to succeed. He should be passionate with his craft, that is, he should not stop acing himself with every shot. He should express his emotion with every picture he takes. More importantly he must persevere, be patient and persistent in achieving his goals. He should not let his fears and insecurities deter him from reaching the top.

Applying for photography schools is tough, not to mention, expensive. So for people wanting to enter and apply for these schools, scholarships seem to be the only solution. But more than the usual entrance exams and essays, a prospective scholar usually have to present the scholarship committee of the university with valid proofs that he has the talent. A portfolio is the usual request of most of these schools. But not just any portfolio will do because you are applying for a special school. Therefore, a more competent portfolio is an important tool to put ahead of the competition.
Selection of a theme is a crucial aspect. Make your theme representative of your style and philosophy. Check pictures in your collection for possible themes or build a new theme by taking another round of pictures. Themes range from abstract concepts like love or urban lifestyle to technicalities like your expertise with Adobe Photoshop effects and angle shots. After building a theme, select your pictures carefully. Include pictures which you feel passionate about. Make it a collection of your best works; a portfolio serves as your identity so put your best food forward. A good size portfolio contain 20-50 pictures. Remember not to include too much because the reviewers might feel that you are not decided about your specialty.
Show your portfolio to your other photographer friends or other professional photographers. Take note of their advice and comments, but don't feel compelled to follow them. Include a resume detailing completed photography jobs or projects and workshops you have attended. Attach also copies of certificates or awards that your work earned for you. I think that these shows the scholarship panel your enthusiasm and passion for the field. A short essay detailing your photography plans, your desire to pursue photography, and about yourself is a good addition.

I know of a friend who wanted to be a photographer but her parents wanted her to be a doctor. And so this friend of mine pursued medicine despite the fact that he wanted something else. There are a lot of talented people who wish to become photographers but are hindered by a lot of reasons. For one thing, some people find that photography is not that financially rewarding.
Photography may not be as financially rewarding as the careers of doctors or lawyers. However, putting aside the money, it’s a career that will make you happy because you followed your heart. It’s a personal choice to become successful and not just a stroke of luck. Many of the famous photographers knew for themselves that they have chosen a profession that is not quite lucrative and yet they went past people’s expectations.
A good motivation for hopefuls is to enroll in a photography school that will hone their hidden talents in photography and teach them the know-how of photography. A good photography school is one that can give students hands-on training with cameras and other equipments. It is a school that has a program to develop the creative skills of students to make them successful photographers once they go out of school. Also, it must understand that it is a competitive world out there, so students must be equipped with the technical and creative expertise a good photographer should have. Famous photographers have started from the bottom. They were able to reach the top; so can you.

I know many people who dream of becoming a professional photographer. Some will literally take pictures for food. I know the feeling because I was once like them too. You really have to have talent and be unique to succeed in this field, otherwise, you will really get hungry. Some might think that photography is not a stable job. Compared to being a lawyer, doctor or banker, they may be right.
Like all arts, one really has to have a passion for photography and of course, sheer talent. If you are one of those lucky few who have both, then do not be afraid to shine. If your financial restraints are holding you off, don't feel down. Take it one step at a time. In truth, you won't really need a state-of-the-art digital camera to start learning. Any camera would suffice. Learn the basics first.
Save money for the camera, accessories and dark room that you need. Slowly, you will complete the gadgets you need and everything will be easy. For now, borrow some books, search the internet, and polish the skills you have. Soon, you will be a self-fulfilled photographer you always wanted to be.

Recently, my cousin wrote a letter regarding his experiences in a photography school. He did mention some difficulties when it comes to meeting the requirements. However, he described the experience as wonderful. He told me that they were asked to take pictures in the middle of the sun and in other hard situations.
The training was rigorous since photography entails discipline. Among his photo shoots, I enjoyed watching those taken unconventionally. As I looked at the pictures, I was slowly being lured to attend schooling.
